Dense concentration of animals and birds on the modern livestock and poultry complexes leads to the massive production of excreta and other technical wastes. Livestock wastewaters after sufficient treatment are reused in the same agricultural complexes for irrigation of farmlands or are discarded in water bodies. On cattle and pig farms, the following types of sewages are generated: manure, industrial (contaminated and non-contaminated), rain (contaminated and low- contaminated) and domestic. In poultries the analogous wastewaters are formed, with the exception of manure sewages.

The dung removal in poultries is provided mainly mechanically with further heat or biothermal treatment for subsequent re-use as fertilizer. Only the dung remains can get into the sewerage. Non-contaminated industrial wastewaters from considered objects are discharged from the compressor cooling systems, refrigeration units, exhaust fans, etc. In result there are created conditions for sedimentation of silt onto the bottom, growth of pathogenic microorganisms, accumulation of stable fetid odour, increase in COD and BOD.
